This item was made during the Art Deco era in French Indochina, which now comprises several parts of the countries in Southeast Asia and China. The bracelet was created using repousse metalworking techniques to hand-hammer sterling silver, resulting in beautiful floral motifs. As well as the large flowers on the band, there are also curling leaf accents. Tarnish on the sterling silver gives this piece an antique quality which we believe is quite lovely.

Jewelry from this period was most often crafted between 1920 and 1940. During the Art Deco period jewelers often made jewelry upon custom order, this would often take weeks to months to completely craft by hand. French Indochina was a grouping of French colonial territories in Southeast Asia. It was formed on October 17, 1887, following the French victory over China in the Sino-French War, and was disbanded in 1954. Jewelry made in this federation between 1887 and 1950 was typically of French Art Nouveau and Art Deco design, but relied heavily upon regional Indochinese style elements, creating unique pieces that blended the aesthetics of Europe with the cultural symbolism of Southeast Asia. Repoussé began as an ancient metalworking technique dating as far back as the 3rd century BC, involving malleable metal that was hammered onto the reverse side to create an image on the front. Examples are found all over the world; Greece, Egypt, and even the Hopewell periods in the American southeast. Reverse side hammering was also used to add detail to the front, creating intricate patterns using grooves, indentations, and channeling. The piece was then carefully polished to create a hollow, eye-catching treasure.
