ANTIQUE 19TH CENTURY CHINESE QING DYNASTY TONGZHI MARK AND PERIOD BOWL. BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE WITH A VERY RARE DESIGN AND COLOUR PALETTE. FROM OUR PRIVATE COLLECTION WHICH MY PARTNER HAS COLLECTED FOR OVER 20 YEARS WHICH HE WAS INTRODUCED BY HIS GRANDPARENTS. IT HAS BEEN SUGGESTED BY AN EXPERT THAT WITH THE PASTEL COLOURS BEING USED IT WAS PROBABLY MADE FOR THE ISLAMIC MARKET. THE MARK IS NICELY HAND PAINTED AS SHOWN FOR THE TONGZHI PERIOD AND IT IS OF THE PERIOD.

THE BOWL IS IN GOOD CONDITION YET IT DOES HAVE TWO HAIRLINES AS SHOWN IN THE PHOTOS. ONE IS ONLY SEEN UNDER UV LIGHT. I HAVE SHOWN PHOTOS OF SOME PIECES OF ENAMEL THAT LOOK AS THOUGH THEY HAVE BEEN CHIPPED OFF BUT USING A LOUPE IT IS WHERE THE ARTIST HAS NOT PAINTED THE ENAMEL TO THE EDGE.
